Having an adequate amount of insoluble fiber in your diet is essential for healthy bowel habits. With western eating habits, Americans often struggle to get enough fiber in their diet. Besides increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables in you diet, a great way to get fiber naturally is to eat bran based cereals. (stay away from fiber gummies, pellets, and powders — they just don’t have enough fiber and are a waste of money!)
The recommended daily value for insoluble fiber intake is 30 grams. I have found that this is a good target to shoot for.
Try my Natural Remedy for Constipation Prescription, courtesy of Dr. Mark Moyad and Dr. Thomas Reilly:
Combine two cereals:
1/3 Cup Bran Buds
2/3 Cup Fiber One
Each cereal contains 15 grams of insoluble fiber, for 100% of your total daily value. When combined, it tastes pretty good too!
If you aren’t happy with it, then try mixing the Bran Buds with other cereals or yogurt.
Be sure to stay well hydrated and good luck! You will see the benefits almost right away!
